It’s Not the Cow, It’s the How
In the season premiere of Farm Hero, host Laura Zaspel scours the country for the best farming practices and the people behind them. Her search winds her up in Gunnison Colorado at Parker pastures. Bill Parker and his daughters are fighting desertification with their grass-fed livestock. Using a collaboration with local farmers, Bill fights against the stigma of livestock farming with a holistic approach. Parker pastures breathes new air into the concept of farm-to-table.

From the Dust Bowl To Cover Crops
Ever-increasing rainfall, coupled with monocultural farming, is eradicating the topsoil in Iowa farms. With an estimate that all topsoil in the area will be gone within 35 years, the race is on to change farming culture. Elizabeth Garst and her farm are at the forefront of the fight to educate farmers and the public on the necessity of cover crops and soil health. Elizabeth’s ancestors turned Dust Bowl land into a thriving farm with morals, and she’s not stopping there.

From Farm to City Table
This week, host Laura visits a family who has taken backyard farming to a whole new level. The Killpatrick family led by husband and father Michael is paving the way for the next generation of regenerative farming. This farm sprouted from the 2020 pandemic and in a few short years has become a pivotal cornerstone of their city community for all things holistic and organic. The Farm on Central is proving what can be accomplished with dedication to the future of farming.

Episode 4
The Gift of Fight Personified
On this episode, Laura takes a trip to White Oak Pastures in Georgia to meet with pioneer and visionary, Will Harris. After two decades of monocultural farming, Will took his multi-generation farm into a completely new direction by turning it into a regenerative farm. Through trials and tribulations, Will and his family are paving the way for regenerative agriculture and educating the public on the importance of food education.

From the Field to the Award Stage
Laura is back with Will Harris and family on their legendary farm. This week, we take a step further to unraveling the philosophies that make Will one of the true innovators of our time. Laura also gets to see how the “Poorest town in America” has been impacted for the better due to Whit Oak Pastures and their commitment to the community they serve. Later, Laura and Will get gussied up to attend a gala that recognizes Will for his dedication.

Ray Archuleta's Mind Blowing Rain Simulator
Laura’s search for farm heroes leads her to White Cloud, Kansas to meet with Ray Archuleta who is inspiring an entire generation of agricultural trailblazers. In order to prove how vital soil health is to farming, Ray and Laura get their hands dirty in the fields to collect samples. With three samples in tow, its back to the lab they go to try out Ray’s rain simulator. How will the farm samples stack up? Let’s find out.

Episode 7
The Software of the Planet
The rain simulator is up and running and the results are shocking. But where do we go from here? How do we fix what’s broken and return to farming with Mother Nature and not against it? Wayne Swanson in Chattanooga Tennessee has some answers. This special episode of Farm Hero highlights the important mission American farmers are on tackling to protect and revitalize our soil… with the help of some Swiss Army Bugs.

Greetings from TomKat Ranch
In part one of the season finale, Laura is immersing herself in all the wonders that are TomKat ranch. Created by Kat Taylor and Tom Steyer, TomKat ranch is part ranch, part laboratory, part educational facility and all around the American Dream. This ranch is doing their part at spear-heading the rural revitalization that will bring about climate stability and a healthier planet.

Episode 9
Only Intentional Shoppers Can Prevent Forest Fires
Farm Hero season one concludes in Pescadero, California at TomKat Ranch. Laura dissects what’s wrong with our food system on a macro scale and what the average consumer can do to fight back with intentional shopping. Next, rancher Mike Biaggi introduces “the five why’s” and how they apply to holistic management and regenerative agriculture. As we cap off season one, Laura and the team raise their glasses to all the Farm Heroes on the front lines, salvaging our food systems for our fellow Americans and viewers like you.
